Others categorize children's literature by format, such as board books, chapter books, easy readers, hardcover books, paperback books, picture books, and pop-up books. Children's literature is also categorized by reading level, such as easy readers and middle grade fiction.

Regardless of how they are categorized, many books termed children's literature are read and enjoyed by young adults and adults.
