For the first year in a very long time, both of my girls decided they didn’t want to go to camp all summer.  We live in a rural area with very few kids around.  With the gas prices so high, I decided I wasn’t going to drive them somewhere everyday.  I’ve had to get very creative trying to find some things for them to do at home.

Our Great American Bake Sale is coming up, and I’m doing several cooking classes with kids ahead of time to make some tasty treats to sell.  I had chocolate on the brain and was contemplating all of the ways that my students could melt it safely.  A friend of mine (who is in the chocolate business!)

Here’s a nifty video on melting chocolate in the microwave. It’s really quite simple. You can melt it in the microwave. Set your microwave for short lengths of time (about 20 seconds), and stir in between. Stir the chocolate, even if it’s retained its shape. Sometimes melted chocolate keeps its shape.

Spam was so popular Monty Python wrote a song about it which I used to sing while standing in line to order Spam for lunch………..Spam was part of my world and I embraced it with open arms.

Where I work, if you're tired of your holiday candy, you just bring it into the office and set it out on a table or stick it in a candy dish. I guarantee by the end of the day, it will be gone. Then again, your co-workers devouring candy probably doesn't make as interesting a video as melting chocolate
