For the Kids!
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 10/ 04/ for-the-kids/For this day and age’s faux pas equivalent of Turner’s putting a VHS with Bugs Bunny™ Nips the Nips clearly labeled on the box in the “Children’s” section, iTunes has made all of Popeye Vol. 3 available in the Kids & Family section… Including You’re a Sap, Mr. Jap, Scrap the Japs, and Seein’ Red, White, an’ Blue.

Barks and Hannah’s “Madam XX”
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 10/ 04/ barks-and-hannahs-madam-xx/I haven’t been posting lately due to lack of time and interest. But I forgot I had scanned these Carl Barks and Jack Hannah story sketches from the abandoned “Madam XX” cartoon. As I’ve stated before, many of the original gags for these Disney cartoons were great, but they were almost always executed in a pathetically syrupy manner.

A WTF Moment: Cartoontime
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 24/ a-wtf-moment-cartoontime/Those who know me know that I am an active collector of cartoons, comedy shorts, and features on 16mm film. Once in awhile I’ll come across something weird, like this tag for something called “Cartoontime,” featuring a still title of Woody Woodpecker, Knothead, Oswald the Rabbit, Huck Hound, Boo Boo, Barney and Betty Rubble, Bamm-Bamm, Pixie, Mr.

Rah-Dah-Dah-Dum, Rah-Dah-Dah-Dum…
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 22/ rah-dah-dah-dum-rah-dah-dah-dum/To tie-in with all of the talk about Irv Spector going on, here is what is probably his most well-known cartoon, Le Petite Parade. This is one of those cartoons everyone seems to remember watching when they were a kid. (Apologies for the lack of posts lately.

Frizzed
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 17/ frizzed/Mike Kazaleh shared a 1974 sketch by Friz Freleng on Cartoon Brew today. Debate whether it is well-drawn or not, but it debunks the accepted fan wisdom that Freleng was not setting the drawing style of his shorts (given how late the date of the drawing is).

Nuff Said
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 15/ nuff-said/Forget McCain, foget Obama - Sarah Palin is clearly the most experienced, well-meaning, rational, intelligent and logical candidate in the current U.S. presidential race. Just look at this enlightening conversation: Charles Gibson: Have you ever met a foreign head of state? Sarah Palin: There in the state of Alaska are international trade activities bring in many leaders of other countries.

Endut! Hoch Hech!
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 13/ endut-hoch-hech/Watching a few Tom and Jerry cartoons recently, I noticed something I hadn’t noticed before - on a few of the T&J’s that still have their original titles (very few), the end title did not have the “Made in Hollywood, U.S.A.” tag. I wonder at what point it was decided that such ‘patriotism’ was necessary, seeing as no other studios did that.

Tyer Floating
http://thadkomorowski.com/ 2008/ 09/ 10/ tyer-floating/One thing that’s always bothered me about Jim Tyer’s animation in a lot of the 1950s Terrytoons is how the characters seem to be floating, as if the action was taking place underwater. (The most notorious examples can be seen throughout Miami Maniacs).
