PSAL girls’ volleyball rankings: Columbus finds top 10

    http://www.talkbx.com/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ psal-girls-volleyball-rankings-columbus-fin…

Wholesale changes this week. Six spots out of 10 change and we welcome two new teams – both from the Bronx – to our rankings. The picture is still very cloudy and some of that should clear up this week, especially Tuesday when Wagner plays MSIT and Lehman takes on Kennedy. Here’s how they break down: 1.

PHOTOS: Gloating Over the Yankees Season-Ending Loss at Fenway Park

You know how we made a big fuss about the Red Sox-Indians game we attended last week, the one where Boston clinched a playoff spot? Well, we’re about to make a big fuss about the Red Sox-Yankees game we and some pals took in last night—the final game of the regular season and the final game of 2008 for a certain pinstriped New York team.

The Sunday Drive with a thanks to CC, .500 is a good thing, Hello Columbus and a goodbye to a friend

I can’t tell a lie. I was really rooting for CC Sabathia today. Last year, Sabathia melted down in the playoffs for the Indians, and really brought forth a bunch of questions about Sabathia’s mettle when the games really counted. Today, Sabathia was pitching on three days’ rest, and I couldn’t help but think this wasn’t going to go well for the Brewers.

Yanks' playoff streak comes to end

    http://ballhype.com/ story/ yanks_playoff_streak_comes_to_end/

Joe Girardi had spoken optimistically of keeping his Yankees alive in the postseason discussion, even against long odds. His reasoning? There had not been an 'X' affixed to the club's name in the American League standings. Those last hopes for a miracle were dashed on Tuesday, as the Boston ...

    Pirates Power!

    http://blue-collarbaseball.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ pirates-power.html

The Pittsburgh Pirates are returning to my homeland of southern West Virginia. After a 30+ year hiatus in coal country (Charleston was the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate from 1971-76), the Pittsburgh Pirates will have a minor league affiliate in West Virginia - the Single-A West Virginia Power.

    Judging Buildings

    http://www.princeofpetworth.com/ ?p=3898

Judging Buildings September 12th, 2008 Previously a reader had asked if I had ever posted this building. Gosh, I’m so drunk tired, I can’t even remember the name of this building just north of the zoo on Connecticut Ave. Lord, I’m getting old. Anyway, after the jump see if you can distinguish which is the new wing and which is the old wing.

    I’ve Always Loved This House

    http://www.princeofpetworth.com/ ?p=3878

I’ve Always Loved This House September 11th, 2008 So I was overjoyed to see it listed as Washingtonian’s Estate of the Week. When walking by this house at 3411 Ordway St., NW you usually only get to see the top three curves but you could get a taste of how cool it was. Apparently it was designed by I.M.

    Here, There, and Everywhere

    http://ducksnorts.com/ blog/ 2008/ 09/ here-there-and-everywhere.html

My latest article at Hardball Times looks back at a 1989 game in which the Cleveland Indians collected six hits, all home runs. Joe Carter knocked three of them. Carter, you may recall, came to San Diego the following year and gave a convincing demonstration of how utterly useless the RBI statistic is.
