CMOS is an acronym for the semiconductor that provides the technology to allow for the production of miniature electronic circuits.

The full name of this technology is complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor but is occasionally called complementary-symmetry metal-oxide-semiconductor.

This very important piece of technology should not be confused with the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society which shares in the same acronym.

Two features of the CMOS are noise minimizing and power efficiency. The majority of the power used up by the CMOS is during the process of switching on and off, but it otherwise has very minimal energy waste.

Normally, CMOS devices are able to function even through a very wide range of temperatures, varying from -55 degrees Celsius, all the way up to +125 degrees Celsius.

You'll find bloggers talking about CMOS and other integrated circuitry at sites like Hard-To-Find Integrated Circuits and Obsolete Electronic Parts.
