colic

Colic is a term used to describe inconsolable crying in infants.  The 'rule of thirds' is used to diagnose the condition; If a baby cries 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 3 weeks or more, they are said to have colic.

A diagnosis of 'colic' is not helpful as the term is merely a label to describe inconsolable infant crying. Some babies who are said to have colic are actually suffering from medical conditions such as infant reflux or food sensitivities. Others may cry excessively due to their temperament.

The vast majority of mentions of 'colic' on the blogosphere are from mommy bloggers recounting their personal experience of dealing with a fussy or colicky baby. Many of these women are writing personal blogs to update family and friends, whereas some also review products they have found helpful in dealing with the condition.

Other blogs provide information on the causes and treatments for colic or infant fussiness; Some seek to provide support to parents dealing with colic. Some even seek to provide insight into the psychology behind colic.
