cooking
Cooking is the process by which raw ingredients are combined to produce a finished dish for human consumption. This is typically achieved by the application of heat (such as baking, frying, or roasting), but can include the specialised preparation of raw ingredients, such as raw fish (to produce sashimi).
Cooking can rely on the use of printed recipes but written instructions are not essential: experience and a good knowledge of cooking processes and preparation techniques as well as flavour combinations can render strict adherence to a printed recipe unnecessary.
Many blogs that are about cooking will include recipes and ideas for flavour combinations as well as 'how-to' resources that may include videos and podcasts, and book reviews. Blogs often include stunning photographs of finished dishes, which has led to the use of the term 'food porn'. Many cooking blogs participate in 'blog events' where a group of bloggers will all cook the same dish (or similarly themed dishes) in order to share ideas or extend technical skills. Blogs about cooking may focus on one type of food (such as cupcakes), or recipes from one chef, but it is more common for cooking blogs to cover a wider range of food related topics.
