This one did not involve many incidents of actually leaving the house (Ian was sick and I was on a full-out Morrowind bender), but it was a welcome respite from reality nonetheless.

Trains have been a popular subject in Hard Rock for years. In 1974, “Train Kept a Rollin” for Aerosmith“, In 1980, Ozzy Osbourne gave us the “Crazy Train”, 1987 brought us Guns ‘N Roses‘ “Nightrain“.  In 1989 Badlands offered up “Rumblin’ Train“, in 1997 Judas Priest unleashed “Bullet Train” and in 2006, Black Stone Cherry gave us “Lonely Train“.

I came late to Joe Hill’s Heart-Shaped Box, but as they say, better than never, anyway, because holy shit is it a good book. I’m not sure why I never picked it up before; I’m familiar enough with Hill’s family that I probably should have based on that alone. You see, Hill’s real name is Joseph Hillstrom King.
