Are you old enough to remember when credit cards weren't as plentiful, and instead of running it by a simple swipe, the cashier at a department store had a credit card machine that would run over your plastic like a steamroller to form an impression and get your vitals (name, number, and expiration date)?

It's so much easier nowadays, that is if you are a good swiper. Some people still haven't figured out the right speed at which to pace the glide of a magnetic strip through the reader.

Most merchants are now equipped with the latest and greatest credit card machine technology that take both an ATM card or a credit card, so they don't have to bother with bounced checks. It's even affordable for many small businesses who meet a certain sales volume to have merchant accounts to remedy the many missed sales from would-be customers who are cashless.
