The New York Times notes that we could be heading into a time of increasing crime, thanks to our failing economy: “Every recession since the late ’50s has been associated with an increase in crime and, in particular, property crime and robbery, which would be most responsive to changes in economic conditions," said Richard Rosenfeld, a sociologist at the University of Missouri-St.

National Night Out tonight; Texans Against Crime Oct. 14 Here's some opportunities for you to fight back against crime. First, tonight is National Night Out, a crime-prevention and awareness effort that encourages neighbors to gather to discuss crime prevention and to meet law enforcement and city officials.

Tuesday is Texas' day for National Night Out -- where friends and neighbors gather to increase awareness of public safety issues. Events are as small as a few neighbors gathering on a lawn, to as large as hundreds gathering at organized street fairs. McGruff the Crime Dog will be attending some events.
