From the former USSR's "Iron Curtain" to your shower curtain, the word curtain has always been used to describe something that protects or impedes entrance to something. Curtains can be both real and metaphorical. If you have a large window and would like to cover it to block out direct sunlight or because you would like some privacy, that is a real curtain. If you are blocking out a loved one out from your life or you haven't spoken to your father in over 20 years, then that may be a metaphorical curtain.

Real curtains come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Some have pleats, some are woven, and some are transparent. It just depends on the style and taste of the decorator and what they like. In fact, to say that all curtains are the same is like saying all dogs are poodles. Every single curtain is unique and different and can be catered to whatever the person likes. Some curtains are used just to keep out the sunlight. Others are used to tie a room together in color and style. But whatever the reason, there is a curtain that can be found (or specifically crafted) for your wants and needs.
