debit cards

A debit card is either a physical card, usually made from plastic resembling a credit card, or a virtual card as is the case in the online world, that allows the holder to make purchases or transfer money from one account to another.

Debit cards are a convenient and safe replacement to carrying cash. Generally a secret PIN is necessary to be entered before a successful transaction can take place.

In general, debit cards are attached to bank checking and savings accounts. This means that the money spent using the card would be directly taken from the available balance in the bank account.

Some debit cards are attached to different types of accounts other than bank accounts. For example, a popular payment processor online is PayPal. PayPal offers it's users a debit card that will remove funds from the users PayPal account upon use. The PayPal debit card is unique in that it can be used only where MasterCard is accepted.
