design
Design is the process of determining the form, function, appearance or characteristics of something, usually in a tangible medium. There are many categories of design, including graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, and interior design. Design is closely linked to art and can be considered the expression of an artistic aesthetic in a practical environment.
Historically design tends to be characterized by dominant themes and movements, particularly in areas of art, graphics, and architecture. Important design movements or periods include Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, Neoclassicism, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and avant-garde.
A large element of contemporary industrial design is web design, which includes both the technical and aesthetic aspects of creating websites.
