A desktop wallpaper is a background image for a computer desktop. All modern operation systems come with personalization options. One of these options is to select a photo from the local computer system and make it the background image of the system.

This photo is then shown on the desktop at all times. Programs are available to shuffle through a series of photos automatically. The Windows 7 operating system for instance comes with an option to automatically cycle through multiple Windows 7 wallpapers.

Third party programs, often called wallpaper changers, exist as well that can change the desktop wallpaper using local images and even remote images hosted on popular photo hosting sites such as Flickr.

You'll find bloggers talking about desktop wallpapers at sites like Windows 7 News and Otaku Gadgets.
