Last week was my favorite week of the year in Silver City. Our town is host to the five day bicycle stage race called The Tour of The Gila. It is one of the top races for domestic pro and top amateur teams in the entire country. It's also one of the hardest races of the year.

A design issue that I mention several times in the projects on www.nxtprograms.com is that of weight balance. To get a mobile robot to perform well, you need to get a good percentage of the total robot weight over the driven parts (powered wheels, legs, whatever), and keep weight over other parts that are just rolling or dragging to a minumum.

“Dog people” is a term referring to those who own dogs and compete with them in conformation or sports, use them for breeding, or are involved in rescuing and rehoming them. They are more than your generic pet owner.

As usual, this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race was a truly sad situation for the four-legged competitors. One musher (Kim Franklin) was involuntarily eliminated from the race. Why? This happened because she lost two of her dogs during the 48 mile run from Rainy Pass to Rohn.

In the Antarctic, after an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren (Bruce Greenwood), the sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd (Paul Walker) has to leave the polar base with his colleagues due to the proximity of a heavy snow storm. He ties his dogs to be rescued after, but the mission is called-off and the dogs are left alone at their own fortune.

For almost two weeks now we have been learning about and watching the Iditarod dog sled race which takes part in Alaska. It’s been really amazing watching this 1150 mile race of endurance across the Alaskan wilderness. One thing which has really been eye opening is the relationship which the musher has with his/her dog team.

We've been really forgetful about posting about this cool thing that Franki V sent us. One day we got an envelope in the mail.  It looked like this, but had our address on it and the return address was in Vancouver. We used our Siberian intelligence to deduce that it must be from Franki because we don't know anypup else in Vancouver.
