domain registration

Tag details

Domain names are human friendly versions of a numerical website IP address.

The domain registration process is essentially a simple three step process. First you must think of a name, check it's availability, and then go through the payment process.

When thinking of a name, it is often suggested to choose a name that is easy to remember, is short, describes the website it will be used on, and one that contains a TLD (domain ending) that represents the country of residence, or using a .com by default.

All domain registration web sites will have a domain checking tool to search domain name availability. A lot of popular names will have been reserved but often choosing alternate TLDs like .info or .us can yield some available names.

Domains are generally registered on a yearly basis. It has been said that Google will take a web site more seriously and therefore rank the web site higher in search engine results when a domain is registered further into the future.
