This is a detail of a lion head door knocker on a building located at carrer de la Mercé 14, a small street paralel to La Mercé church, home of the Virgen de la Mercè, patron saint of Barcelona. To be more specific the knocker is located on the very corner of such street and carrer Boltres.

What is a front door? Imagine driving up to your house. You get out your keys and you try to open the lock to your front door. You can’t understand why the key won’t turn the lock. And then you realize, you’re at the wrong door! The front door is an important feature in one’s house as it serves as the entry way into one’s sanctuary and home.

This is one of my newer pieces.  I am pleased with how it turned out.  I carried the idea of it around in my head for a long time before I sat down to execute it.  It's a basic wooden plaque that I have covered in my own home made felt.  Actually, it goes back even more than that.

When my husband and I first bought our house two years ago, one of the first things we did was remove the doorbell. My reasoning was completely aesthetic. I hate the sound of doorbells -- really hate them. I know that their are a plethora of chimes and sounds, but I have yet to find one that doesn't annoy me.

A beautiful and old door knocker waits for for someone ... or for the time. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Una bella y vieja aldaba espera por alguien... o por el tiempo.

The knocker represents some kind of mythological being perhaps.
