The E Street Band is Bruce Springsteen's long standing "booty shaking, history making" band. Although some band members have come and gone (David Sancious, Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez, Ernest "Boom" Carter), the core lineup has remained mostly intact since Springsteen's landmark 1975 album Born To Run.
When guitarist Steve Van Zandt left to pursue a solo career in 1984, he was replaced by Nils Lofgren. Patti Scialfa (the future Mrs. Springsteen) also joined. Van Zandt rejoined for the band's 1999 reunion tour (Springsteen broke up the band during the nineties), bringing the band's guitarists to three, including Springsteen himself. The other members include drummer Max Weinberg, bassist Garry W. Tallent, keyboardists Roy Bittan and Danny Federici, and iconic saxophonist Clarence "Big Man" Clemons. Most enjoy solo careers outside of the band. Max is the leader of Conan O'Brien's late night band, and Van Zandt is a TV mobster on the Sopranos.
After the reunion tour, Springsteen reconvened the band in 2002 to record The Rising, the first Springsteen/E Street Band album since 1984's Born In The USA. They have subsequently released 2007's Magic and 2009's Working On A Dream, touring the world behind both albums. Keyboardist Danny Federici passed away due to complications from Melanoma in 2008.
