An electric bicycle, also known as an e-bike or an electric-assisted bicycle, is a standard bicycle that comes with a motor. They are different from scooters, as electric bicycles still give riders the option to pedal or to utilize the motor. US Law states that the electric motor have less than 750W of power and a top motor-powered speed no higher of 20 miles per hour (32 km/h).

Although popular in Asia and Europe, electric bicycles are only starting to gain a following in the United States. They can be easily found on the West and East Coasts with the development of American brands. An electric bicycle could either come with a motor, which would be found in a bike shop, or a cyclist could purchase an electric bike kit and attach a motor to a standard bicycle.
