ethics

Tag details

Ethics refers to a set of norms and morals that govern human action and inform what we ought or should do. There are three forms of ethics, namely, virtue ethics, duty based ethics and consequentialist ethics.

Generally stated, a discussion of ethics assumes a moral standard, which is used to determine the morality of one’s actions. For example, actions that conform to the standard are moral actions. Actions that do not conform to the standard are immoral actions.

The basis of ethics is to establish a system of motivations and deterrents, which factor heavily in controlling and directing human desire. Individuals should desire to do moral actions and should be deterred from doing immoral actions. Thus, ethics prescribes proper moral action and dissuades individuals from desiring to act immorally.
