Former UFC champion Evan Tanner passed away on September 8th, 2008 as a result of heat exposure after spending several days "cleansing" in the desert. He was found near the mountainous area of Palo Verde, California after several days of searching by authorities and friends in the area.
The mixed martial arts star originally from Amarillo, Texas worked his way up the ladders in several organizations before competing for UFC in 1999. He ultimately would win the UFC Middleweight Title on February 5th, 2005 in a match versus David Terrell, but lost four of his next five matches, the last being in June 2008, to end his professional fighting career with a record of 32-8.
In a post made on his Spike-TV blog less than a month before his death, Evan Tanner talked about his upcoming trip to the desert, saying he planned "on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life," seemingly aware of what dangers he could face. Unfortunately, he would come face-to-face with his worst fears just weeks later in that very desert.
