Facebook is a very popular social networking website. Membership was originally limited to students of Harvard University, where founder Mark Zuckerberg was attending, but expanded in phases to include anyone older than 12, and is now the most popular social networking site in the world.
Facebook is free for users, and operates on investment capital and advertising revenue. In November, 2007, Facebook launched a program called Facebook Beacon which was poorly received, and in December, 2007, they apologized and changed the way Beacon operated.
In 2008, Facebook slowly shifted users to a new design, causing some unrest, but many were happy with the changes.
Facebook has so many users, and is so heavily used by many users, that any changes at all generate many responses in the Blogosphere and even major media sources, both positive and negative.
