The term Facebook apps refers to two different types of applications for the popular social networking site Facebook. Facebook apps for one are applications and games that are available on Facebook for users with a Facebook account.

The users accept to enable those apps on Facebook directly to interact with the applications and other users who have installed them. Examples of those apps are quizzes, games like Mafia Wars or news readers.

Facebook apps can also be desktop applications or other external programs that make use of Facebook. Popular examples are Facebook notifiers that inform the user when a new message has been send or applications that change the design and layout of the site.

Many external Facebook apps require a Facebook login that needs to be entered into the app before they can be used. This can be a security risk.
