fair trade
Fair trade is a social movement that promotes sustainable development by seeking greater equity in international trade. Fair trade offers better trading conditions to marginalized producers and workers, particularly in the southern hemisphere. Several fair trade certification organizations offering product labeling programs exist, including TransFair USA, Fair Trade Labeling Organizations International and Fair Trade Federation.
Fair trade certification programs typically address making improvements to the following aspects of international trade: labor conditions, pricing, direct trade (eliminating middlemen), transparency, community development and environmental sustainability. You'll find bloggers addressing fair trade at Fair Trade Certified, Catholic Relief Services, Global Exchange Store and many other sites.
