fly reel
Fly reels are specialty fishing reels that are designed to hold a fly line and braided dacron backing material. Fly lines are much thicker than traditional spinning or casting lines as they're a predetermined weight to match the rod used by a fly fisherman in casting.
Reels used to house this line are single-action, where one turn of the handle produces one turn of the spool, and can feature a simple click-pawl drag, or a robust drag mimicking automobile brakes.
They're ventilated to help dry the line between uses, and have interchangeable spools to allow fly fishermen to carry multiple lines (floating, sinking) and deploy them quickly.
