forest

A forest is any area that is densely populated with trees and underbrush.

Forests are also called woods, woodlands, wealds, and holts. The trees in forests around the world are often very different due to climate and tree species indigenous to particular regions.

Forests are classified by the global area in which they exist: Boreal (subarctic), Temperate (mixed weather areas), and Tropical and Subtropical (hot areas close to equator).

Forests are also classified by the leaf longevity of the dominant species (evergreen or deciduous) and whether or not most of the trees in the forest are broadleaf trees, coniferous or needle-leaved trees, or a mixture of both.
