How to Pick and Purchase your Produce

    http://www.americanconsumernews.com/ 2008/ 06/ how-to-pick-and-purchase-your-pro…

I have always found this a perplexing task - picking out produce that will be the freshest, the sweetest, the best. I was grateful that a handful of stores I frequent started posting little signs of what to look for near the fruit and veggie bins.

How Do We Feed Our Children?

    http://brainblogger.com/ 2008/ 06/ 24/ how-do-we-feed-our-children/

Tonight my son ate a sweet potato. And a few pieces of pasta. And a sauteed mushroom. And some watermelon. And a few kidney and Garbanzo beans. Oh and a few bites of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It was a good eating day. Some (read between the lines: most) days sitting down to eat looks more like a game of throw your food on the floor than it does anything else.

    Keeping cool with Cham Wae

    http://civileyes.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 06/ keeping-cool-with-cham-wae.html

It is so hot today in the DC metropolitan area. We have temperatures hovering in and around 95° up and down the Eastern seaboard. My wife went out to the market and brought home plenty of fruit and vegetables for us to eat as we chill. The above picture is a Korean melon called Cham Wae.

    Class Notes: Shopping for Produce

    http://www.wholehealthcenters.com/ blog/ tips/ class-notes-shopping-for-produce/…

Produce is my favorite department in the grocery store — and not just because I worked in produce in a natural foods store for 7 years. What I love about produce is you don’t have to read ingredient lists and nutrition fact labels. Everything in this department is good for you.

    Farmer's Market Finds

    http://stewiehome.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ farmers-market-finds.html

I love Saturday mornings. For lack of having anything better to do, I love waking up early and heading out around town looking for garage sales. I've got my usual route that I folllow, though I will admit that sometimes I'm forced to deviate if I find something particularly spectacular looking.

    First harvest of the season!

    http://edenspath.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 09/ first-harvest-of-the-season/

Today for lunch we had some fresh spinach from the garden. Not a lot, but enough to stir into the pasta sauce and ladle over our green organic spinach pasta. For dinner we harvested lettuce — 4 varieties — and 4 of our radishes transplanted weeks ago from our neighbor.
