friend

A friend is someone you can call and wake up in the middle of the night to talk about something that is weighing heavily on your mind. A friend is someone you can feel comfortable with sharing your most satisfying victories and your most gut wrenching defeats. A friend sticks with you through thick and thin. Their staying power is not superficial.

Many people marry their best friend! Imagine how the world would be if the union of two people started off that way and continued in such a fashion throughout their lives.

What does a friend do? A friend tells you the truth. A friend inspires you. A friend is encouraging. A friend keeps a secret. A friend lavishes you liberally with thoughtful, sometimes undeserved compliments. A friend reciprocates. A friend forgives. A friend invites you over to a BBQ. A friend does a favor with no strings attached.

Enough of the mushy stuff. A friend shaves one eyebrow off and so do you. You do things together, and your heart is in the same place. A friend shows you his prize Koi fish while you admire his backyard ponds and waterfalls (and don't get jealous). Mostly, you keep each other company and build up or tear down as needed.
