fund
The term fund can refer to a number of things which include:
1) a supply of money or pecuniary resources intended for some specific purpose, such as a fund for education or a retirement fund,
2) a supply or stock, such as a fund of knowledge or a fund of jewels,
3) an organization that is created or chosen to manage or administer a specialized account, which handles money invested or contributed for some special purpose.
A fund can be created for any purpose, and can be managed by anyone that the fund creator chooses, whether this is an individual or organization. There are numerous types of funds available, and many ways that capital can be provided. ETFs are electronically traded funds used for investment purposes, and education funds are used to pay for continued education expenses. The different types of funds allow consumers to make financial decisions and plan for the future. Retirement funds are used to save money which will be needed after retirement, when an individual can no longer work and may need additional income sources.
A fund may have tax benefits or other advantages, or it may be used as a tool for financial planning to ensure resources are available when needed in the future. Some funds are non profit, while others may not be designated as such.
