gMail
Gmail is Google's entry into the webmail industry.
Officially known as Google Mail, Gmail was born on April 1st, 2004. Gmail was first just an invitation-only application, but was finally released to the general public in February of 2007, a little less than three years later. Initially only giving users 1 GB storage, Google quickly upped the number to 7200 MB to help combat Yahoo! Mail's change to offering its basic users free unlimited storage.
In 2008, Google introduced Google Labs to Gmail's interface, allowing users to add a series of tools to their accounts. One of the more noteworthy applications added in October 2008 was Mail Goggles. This application forces users to solve simple math problems before sending email while potentially intoxicating, preventing a user from "drunk emailing" someone that they could possibly regret later on.
