    God bless Ireland

    http://www.publicinquiry.eu/ 2008/ 09/ 10/ god-bless-ireland/

Picture the scene: A large group of policemen are sitting around the station with nothing to do. Organised crime has been terminated; carnage on the roads has been brought to a halt; even white collar crime has, at last, been tackled and the jails are full. What are we to do pleads a desperately enthusiastic rookie.

The Garda Pre-Christmas Party Starts Here! tags: Drink, Gardai, Hic Hic It's The Sound Of The Police Is it a mere coincidence that we received the following incriminating pictures in the same day? We don’t think so. First up, the Dublin Po-Po seize a ton of drink, invoking the new, improved Intoxicating Liquor Act.

Prescription Cannabis-Derived Medication Gets You Arrested in ireland

    http://bocktherobber.com/ 2008/ 05/ prescription-cannabis-derived-medication-get…

Here’s a story about a guy with MS, an appalling progressive illness. The only thing that alleviates his symptoms is medicinal cannabis, which he gets on prescription in Holland where he lives. The problem is, he can’t come home to Ireland, even for a visit. He hasn’t been here in two years.

Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan proudly displays the following quote on her website. ‘Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each

Gardai - Still an undisciplined force

    http://www.publicinquiry.eu/ 2008/ 05/ 02/ gardai-still-an-undisciplined-force/

The figures published yesterday in the first report of the Garda Ombudsman Commission are staggering and very disturbing (RTE News, 2nd report). Nearly 3,000 complaints plus 300 referrals from the Garda Commissioner. 750 investigations into allegations of criminal conduct - mostly of assault.

Shock Horror, A Guard Acting The Prick!

    http://greeninkpen.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 04/ shock-horror-guard-acting-prick.html

This unidentified man, who seems to think he has the power to confiscate cameras, exchanges pleasantaries with a protestor. Note the public relations training when he attempts to mock a stutter. Maybe it's coincidence, they'd just pulled into the forecourt for, hmmm, what is it cops are famous for again? They certainly left without making a purchase.

RTEs reporting of the Rossiter case

    http://www.publicinquiry.eu/ 2008/ 04/ 12/ rtes-reporting-of-the-rossiter-case/

I was puzzled and to some degree I’m still puzzled by RTE’s coverage of the Brian Rossiter report. The presenter of Today with Pat Kenny (See previous post) clearly said to Philip Boucher Hayes, who had seen the report: “You’ve seen the report; the rest of us will not get to see the full report.” I think the crucial word here is ‘full’.

Brian Rossiter case - A State secret

    http://www.publicinquiry.eu/ 2008/ 04/ 11/ brian-rossiter-case-a-state-secret/

Brian Rossiter (14) was found unconscious in a cell in Clonmel Garda Station following his arrest in the town on 10 September 2002. He died a few days later. Despite repeated calls for an independent investigation into the matter it wasn’t until June 2005 that the then Justice Minister, Michael McDowell, established an inquiry.
