Gary Sinise is an American actor who was born in 1955. Although his birthplace is Illinois, his voice clearly shows he is a Chicago native. Sinise is well known for films such as Forrest Gump and Apollo 13 among other works. These two make Sinise so popular that his performance is remembered by bloggers who can quote lines word for word. Fans of his also enjoy his work on television.
Sinise founded an organization talked about by bloggers called Operation Iraqi Children. It makes sure children are supplied with what they need for school. Sinise first became interested in setting up this project after a trip to Iraq with the USO. He then established the group with Laura Hillebrand, the author of Seabiscuit. Due to his popularity, the effort has gotten much publicity. Volunteers pack up boxes with the school supplies and the military ensures they get where most needed.
Sinise often visits military bases to perform with his band, "The Lt. Dan Band," named after the Oscar nominated role he played in Forrest Gump. Due to his heavy acting schedule, these do not happen often. However, the band has played to thousands of people each year.
