Published in The Province. At some point during the last 10 years of this computer age, spelling and grammatical accuracy got tossed, phrases got shortened to two-finger tappables like “CU l8r”, and a whole new lexicon of ever-expanding nerd words like “w00t”, “l337″, “n00b” moved from underground Internet forums to mainstream media and your e-mail inbox.

Geek Treat: Motherboard Cake Has 3 GB Of Icing

    http://www.poptherapy.com/ 2008/ 10/ geek-treat-motherboard-cake-has-3-gb-of-ici…

Check out this motherboard cake. It’s the kind of thing you make a geek for his birthday. Not that anyone ever makes me a damn cake for my birthday, which is maybe because my birthday consists of a case of rum and updating this site, while a monkey jumps around the room masturbating and flinging poo at me.

Illuminate Your Keys With The Dark Side of the Force With a Light Saber LED Mini-Flashlight

    http://www.uberreview.com/ 2008/ 10/ illuminate-your-keys-with-the-dark-side-of-…

One might successfully argue that this is either the coolest or dorkiest LED mini-flashlight ever made, depending on who they are around. Money and Meteorites

    http://clubtroppo.com.au/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ money-and-meteorites/

Like a lot of modern libertarian types, my first in-depth exposure to economics came from the minority ‘Austrian School’ of economics. The Most Spooktacular… Ever?

    http://amysmusings.com/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ the-most-spooktacular-ever/

Do you know what can sometimes stink about decorating for Halloween or Christmas outside? You can’t really see how awesome everything actually looks until it gets dark and that sucks because I have very little patience and by the time I nearly kill myself (or my children) hanging from ladders and

Video: Mod makes Microsoft Surface pressure sensitive!

    http://blog.gadgetlite.com/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ video-mod-microsoft-surface-pressure/

Here’s a little something to look forward to, a hack for Microsoft’s Surface PC in conjunction with Nintendo’s Wii Balance Board. A geeky milestone

    http://clubtroppo.com.au/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ a-geeky-milestone/

Linux, the operating system that continues to reshape the computing world, is 17 today. It started modestly enough: Do you pine for the nice days of minix-1.1, when men were men and wrote their own device drivers? Are you without a nice project and just dying to cut your teeth on a OS you can try to modify for your needs?
