geo

The term geo is most commonly used as a prefix to refer to things that are somehow related to the Earth, which includes geography, geology, geodesy, geopolitics, and so on.

Of Greek origin, the word geo originally meant earth in the sense of ground or land. Consequently, it can also used to denote any kind of spatial relationships, as with geometry, geolocation or geotargeting.

When referring to satellite navigation systems that enable vehicle tracking and location information anywhere on or near the Earth, the more encompassing term 'global' is used instead.


Geo is also applied to marketing, where it denotes the integration of geographical intelligence into various aspects pertaining to the sales and distribution of goods and services.
