george w. bush

Tag details

George W Bush was the 43rd President of The United States, taking office on January 20th 2001 and leaving office January 20th 2009. He is the son of George H W Bush, 41st President of the United States.

Eight months into his presidency, on September 11th 2001, the World Trade Center towers were destroyed by terrorists. The subsequent "War On Terror" was a defining element of George W Bush's presidency. On the back of this struggle and a new doctrine of "pre-emption," the United States was lead into seperate wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The existence of the Guantanamo Bay detention center and the use of torture and questionable intelligence gathering practices provided for considerable controversy during George W Bush's presidency. The economic crisis that emerged in the latter part of his second term further cast a shadow on his presidential legacy.

Often the butt of political humor, George W Bush's colorful political quotes and unique predicaments, like the notorious shoe throwing incident, made for spirited discussion in the blogosphere during much of his Presidency.
