Popular Scottish actor Gerard James Butler was born on November 13, 1969 in Glasgow. He has appeared in such notable films as: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life (2003) starring Angelina Jolie, The Phantom Of The Opera (2004), PS, I Love You (2007), RocknRolla and The Ugly Truth alongside budding movie star Katherine Heigl (2009).


Gerard Butler developed an interest in acting at a young age and joined the Scottish Youth Theatre, where he appeared in a production of Oliver! when he was just 12 years old. His first Hollywood acting gig was as an extra in the 1992 Whitney Houston romantic-thriller The Bodyguard.

He has a degree from the School of Law at Glasgow University where he served as the president of the school's law society and earned an honor's degree.

In 2007, Gerard Butler starred as Spartan King Leonidas in 300, an adaptation of Frank Miller's historical novel set during the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.
