Gold has been performing really, really well lately, and, as of March 2008, was trading at over $1,000/ounce; but what is that based on? And is that type of value sustainable, or is this just another asset that is waiting to burst like the Dot Com Crash and the Housing Bubble?

If you listen to some of the political pundits, they will tell you to sell everything you have and put your money in gold. It is, they say, safe and secure and a "solid investment" in troubled times. And the reason they say this is because, of all the precious metals, gold is the most popular investment and investors generally buy gold as a hedge or "safe haven" against any economic, political, social, or currency-based crises. However, gold—as with every other type of investment—is a risk and should be an investment that is approached carefully and prudently.

Financial commentator's like Jim Rogers predict that gold will reach $2000/ounce in the near future. However, economics professor Nouriel Roubini sees another investment bubble that will burst spectacularly. Who's right? Only time will tell...
