graphic design

Visual communication and presentation using a variety of mediums, techniques and skills are the elements of graphic design. A graphic designer may use typography, visual arts, page layout and web design elements to produce the final product.

Common uses for graphic design include ad work, product packaging, magazines and web sites. Graphic design split from fine art in 19th Century Europe. Piet Mondrian is credited as the father of graphic design. The advent and explosion of the internet has fostered new design requirements for the web design environment. Many graphic designers working on the internet are also photographers to facilitate web client needs.

Tutorial based blogs and social media are big business on the internet, with billions of websites worldwide needing at least some for graphic design. Blogs on graphic design include trends, tips and techniques as well as listing of hot new graphic design sites. Award listings and resources are also common features of graphic design blogs.
