Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Sure it doesn’t do much, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t the coolest looking Facebook app I’ve seen this week. Nexus is simple in premise, yet completely elegant in execution — that said, it probably wasn’t the simplest of apps to develop.

As a followup to my previous blog posts and innumerable Twitters (starting on March3) about the Graphing Social Patterns and ETech conferences this past week, I just wanted to say-hey to all those I met or ran into -- at least those I got cards from.

Last week I attended Graphing Social Patterns West and reported on the sessions that took place down in San Diego. It was a great event with lots of content. After a bit of reflection, these are my top 10 takeaways from the event. Hollywood and Video Game Players were MIA.

Jia Shen, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of RockYou, and R. Tyler Ballance, lead developer of Slide’s Top Friends application, spoke at Graphing Social Patterns West about social application development. Both Jia and Tyler flew through their presentations so I had a hard time keeping up.

Despite the fact that I lost my voice halfway through my three days in San Diego (some weird cold thing I picked up), the two O'Reilly events this week were definitely worth attending. I say that even though I wasn't able to participate as much as I would have liked. Certainly, the networking suffered.

My head hurts from a full day of geeky wonkery in San Diego, at O’Reilly Media’s overlapping conferences, Graphing Social Patterns West and its ETech or Emerging Technology Conference. The pair of conferences are slightly different, although both cover what most conferences cover–the Next Big Thing.

Why the space valuable? Size and growth of audiences is driving value. The opening of the API’s at MySpace and OpenSocial is driving huge opportunities.
