guinness book of world records

Tag details

Back in the 1950s, Sir Hugh Beaver, a South African native and British engineer and industrialist, helped found the Guinness Book of World Records.

Initially published in 1955 as a simple way to help settle arguments made in pubs, the empire has grown to cover a whole litany of events and happenings around the globe. Released annually, the book is published in dozens of countries and languages and covers the entire spectrum records possible, some considered not as impressive as others, but still officially documented as a world record by the company.

Now known simply as "Guinness World Records," the company recently published its 100 millionth copy of the book, offered a "Gamer's" edition of the book starting in 2008, and have created an annual "Guinness World Records Day" every November 13th to celebrate record setting around the world.
