Hair removal refers to the process of removing bodily hair. This can be done in a number of ways, and for a variety of reasons, such as religious and medical, but ore often than not, people remove hair for cultural and cosmetic reasons.

There are two main forms of hair removal: depilation and epilation. Depilation refers to the removal of hair above the skin, while epilation denotes the complete removal of hair (including the part below the skin). The most common form of depilation is shaving, although hair removal cream may also be used to avoid cuts and scars. Methods of complete hair removal include waxing, electric epilation devices, laser treatment, or plucking with tweezers.

As each culture had created social norms with regards to the presence or absence of bodily hair, the lack of it is generally regarded as a feminine attribute. Bodily areas that can require hair removal in women are the armpits, the pubic region, the abdomen and the legs. Most men choose to remove their facial hair via shaving, so as to achieve a neat appearance. There are individuals of both sexes, however, who choose to subvert this standard by letting their hair grow naturally.
