Halloween is the celebration typically held on October 31st each year. The roots of Halloween go back thousands of years. It is believed that the Celtics were the originators of Halloween. The date marked the end of the summer and the harvest and the beginning of the cold winter that was often a time of death. The Celtic New Year began on November 1st. Celebrating the night with bonfires and predictions of the future, the Celtics believed this to be the night that the dead walked again on the earth. During the celebration the Celtics wore animal skins and heads as costumes.
