halo

Devised at a time when gaming was just taking its foothold in the entertainment market, and set in the previous millennium, Halo garnered so much support that it evolved into a trilogy. Initially designed and created by Bungie Studios, the first installment of the Halo series was a truly solo production which they had no idea would work so well.

After the success of the first part, Bungie linked up with Microsoft and released its next part, Halo: Combat Evolved which became the flagship title for xbox. From then onwards, with the evolution of the xbox, the game too evolved. The third part was even a bigger success. It became the most pre-ordered game of that time.

Rumors are abound that the next title in the Halo series is on the verge of conception. This is yet not confirmed by either bungee or Microsoft. However, it may well be true considering that the studio is working with Peter Jackson on its next big project. Could it be the next Halo? Who knows, the next installment might even make use of the new kinect interface for xbox 360.

Halo’s profound effect is still felt today in the modern action arcade style games such as the Call of Duty series and others. Another interesting side effect of the game was an offshoot novel: Halo – Cryptus. It spans over three series and should continue to increase.
