Handmade items are made with a secret ingredient:

Love.

Okay, sorry about that. Enough of the sappy stuff. Truth be told, handmade items are priceless, but they are priceless like a mother's love, not priceless like the "good kind."

When you were younger, do you remember your mom or dad telling you that for their birthday (or for Grandma or Grandpa's birthday) they would like you to make something handmade because it would mean more? As a child you probably didn't really understand the significance of what they were saying. But, as an adult the meaning has become all too clear: in this commercial society in which we live, there is something remarkable about a handmade gift, made with, yes... love.

So whether it is a drawing, an ashtray made out of clay and fired in a kiln, or an embroidery piece, something that is handmade is something that took some time and thought as opposed to just something you bought at a cash register. And that is indeed priceless.
