I created this tutorial how to page because I had trouble accessing my Ubuntu PC from my Windows based Network (Windows Vista, Windows XP) in my home. I have 4 PC’s (wired and wireless) connected to a router - which is the how they get out the Internet. All the PC’s (including the Ubuntu one) have the same network “workgroup” name.

Xubuntu is a complete GNU/Linux based operating system with an Ubuntu base. It is lighter on system requirements and tends to be more efficient than Ubuntu with GNOME or KDE, since it uses the Xfce Desktop environment, which makes it ideal for old or low-end machines, thin-client networks, or for those who would like to get more performance out of their hardware.

If anyone out there knows how to fix sound on a Linux box (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron) please have a look at this post as something happened a couple of days ago after a recommended system update and the sound completely stopped on my Linux partition but still works on my XP partition so it’s not hardware.
