health 2.0

Tag details

Health 2.0 is the term used to describe the next generation health movement in which patients are active, empowered managers of their own health. The term originated as a derivation of Web 2.0, with a strict definition related to user-generated health information. Today the term more broadly represents innovative approaches to healthcare which are patient-centered, social media or community-driven, and leverage digital technologies.

There is some debate over the future of the Health 2.0 movement. In 2008, for the first time, more U.S. adults used the Internet than doctors to obtain health and medical information, yet few Health 2.0 companies have been able to monetize their business successfully.  The increase in information seekers on the web has led to growth of blog sites and articles about a variety health-related topics.  Some bloggers give health advice while others warn about misinformation.
