It's very important to remember that you can't spell "cheater" without "heater". Actually, there really is no connection between those two words. At all. It's just an interesting phenomenon of semantics. In reality, "heater" means one of two things:

First, the word refers to any form of heater or object that creates or gives off heat. Gas heaters, water heaters, electric heaters, space heaters, solar heaters, etc. are all forms of heaters with one single purpose — to transfer heat from one substance to another. These heaters are meant to heat homes, shower water, etc.

However, any true baseball fan will tell you that a "Heater" also refers to a pitcher's fastball. Every great pitcher in the history of the game has had a fastball in his quiver of pitches from which he can select during a game. Along with his curveball, sinker, slider, and changeup, a pitcher uses his "Heater" to get that all-elusive strike out when he is down in the count or needs to get the hitter to go down swinging. Heaters are often used by a relief pitcher to get out of an inning and a game while preserving the lead.
