A hemorrhoid is a swelling of the veins in the rectum and anus. The medical term refers to the cushions of tissue filled with blood vessels at the intersection of the rectum and anus, but more commonly it refers to all types of vein swelling in the rectum and anus. There are various types of hemorrhoids, generally classified as internal or external.

Hemorrhoids are believed to start from a variety of causes including sitting for long periods, straining during bowel movements, hypertension, obesity and pregnancy. Treatments vary in cost and effectiveness ranging from hemorrhoid cream, warm sitz baths, bidet use and cold compresses to relieve the symptoms and reduce the swelling. In some cases surgical treatment will be recommended.

Blogs on hemorrhoids include personal journals of treatments, cures and homeopathic remedies. Some of the blogs are managed by clinics and vendors of hemorrhoid treatment products. Others offer contributions from a wide range of health care professionals with discussions and videos on hemorrhoid relief.
