Hid, of course, is the past tense for the term hide.


HID is also part of the phrase HID kits and is an acronym which stands for High Intensity Discharge.

HID kits are an innovative new style of lighting, similar to halogen lighting, but HID Kits significantly increase a vehicles lighting capabilities over halogen.


HID lamps strike an electrical arc across tungsten electrodes to generate light. The electrodes are housed inside a specially designed fused alumina tube or inner fused quartz.

The alumina tube is filled with both gas and metals. The gas helps to start the lamps. The metals produce the light once they are heated to a point of evaporation, forming a plasma.
