history
History is the study of written accounts of the past, encompassing all aspects of society: its political development, wars, cultural developments and everyday life. It is chronological, in that it assesses past events as they occurred sequentially. History is preserved and studied as a means of understanding both the past and the present which the former's events have helped to shape. It is not an objective science, though nowadays it is often classified as being a branch of the social sciences.
History is usually taken to mean a written analysis of past events and human interactions, although oral history is an important area of study also. In certain types of traditional tribal societies, for example, oral history is a well developed and sophisticated means of transmitting the story of the past to the people of the present.
Many blogs are devoted to the study and discussion of history, some quite general and international in scope. Others focus on a certain geographical area, such as the United States, or a certain time period, such as the Middle Ages or the Edwardian period.

Presidents and umbrellas, continued: Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth
Millard Fillmore's Bathtub —
Authority: 482
This is just so odd that it merits our attention, so long as we’re talking about presidents and umbrellas . In 1864, John Wilkes Booth wrote to President Abraham Lincoln asking for money to purchase an umbrella. Yes, Booth, the man who would eventually assassinate that same Abraham Lincoln. I’ll admit that I’ve always been more of a Freddy fan than a Jason Voorhees one. I liked that Freddy could quip about his kills, whereas Jason was a brutal killer fueled by pure evil. Though, Freddy will always be my favorite, I still love the Friday the 13th series. Danniel Ferrands and Thommy Hutson are also ...3 days ago -

R.I.P. Ray Manzarek Founding Member of The Doors
—
Authority:
This is so sad. Ray was a true classic rock innovator of the 60s and gave The Doors their signature sound. Some say he was the best keyboardist of the period. For me its hard to say since they flamed out pretty early with Jims death. But, no doubt about it, Ray was a unique and inventive musician. I loved his work. ...3 days ago -
